Sickness and disability

Sickness and disability are risks for both the company and the employee. There are various solutions for insuring the financial consequences of these risks. 

Employer risk: Absenteeism and self-insurance

In the Netherlands, employers are required to pay at least 70% of an employee’s salary during the first 104 weeks of illness or disability. After that, employees are eligible for a disability insurance from the UWV. For this you pay a premium for each employee. It might be cheaper for you to take out an insurance. You are then self-insured. 

Absenteeism insurance 
When it comes to absenteeism insurances, the insurer takes over the obligation of the employer to continue to pay the salary during illness. This makes absenteeism insurances an important instrument to limit the financial risk of sick employees for employers. With an additional MKB (SME) Absenteeism Insurance, the insurer also guarantees that you will comply with all legal reintegration obligations. KWPS can assist you in taking out one or both of these insurance policies for a basic fee from € 2,000 (excluding VAT). To this end, we carry out the following activities. 

  1. Introduction and design of the desired insurance 
  2. Submitting a request for quotation and reporting on costs 
  3. Implementation of the insurance 

Self-insurance for WGA and ZW 
The employer who has chosen not to be publicly insured for the WGA (partial capability for work) and is therefore self-insurer, is obliged to take out a separate insurance. This obligation does not apply to employers who have chosen not to take out public insurance for the ZW (health insurance act), but insurance for this is also possible. With a private insurance, you may benefit from the financial advantage: the insured rate is in that case lower than the statutory standard rate. This is, for example, the case when you have a low inflow into the WGA or ZW. We will gladly determine our rates for advice and guidance with you, as these depend on your company's situation. 

Employee risk: Employee benefits

In the event of occupational disability, the employee faces a (large) reduction in income. There are various insurances that provide for a benefit to the occupational disabled employee or a supplement to the  occupational disability benefit. We can assist you in taking out the following insurances. 

  • WIA-bodemverzekering  
  • WGA-hiaatverzekering 
  • WIA vaste aanvulling 
  • WIA-excedentverzekering
